Edellisestä blogin päivityksestä onkin aikaa, mikä ei suinkaan tarkoita sitä, etteikö mitään olisi tapahtunut!

It's been a while since the previous update, but it does not mean that there were no activites during that time!

Viime lukukausi saatiin hienosti päätökseen joulujuhlassa, johon kaikki ikäryhmät olivat valmistautuneet tanssi- ja lauluesityksin sekä näytelmin. Kannelryhmäkin esitteli taitojaan.

Previous semester received a nice ending at the Christmas party, where all groups performed their respective dance, singing and acting programs. Additionally, the kantele group showed off their skills.

Pikkuisia viedään rekiretkelle!

Little ones are taken on a sleigh ride!

Jännittynyt yleisö seuraa, kuka metsämökin ikkunasta saattaa kurkistaa...

The audience follows at the edge of their seats to see, who might peek out of the cabin windows in the woods...

Kukapa muu kuin Joulupukki saapui vierailulle!

Who else but Santa arrived to greet the children!

Lopuksi kaikki tulivat yhteen herkuttelemaan ja vaihtamaan hyvän joulun toivotuksia.

Finally, everyone joined in on the potluck and to exchange their Christmas and holiday greetings.

Tällaisissa tunnelmissa oli hyvä mennä lomille: siitä on myös mukava aloittaa uusi vuosi energisissä merkeissä!

It was good to start the holidays in such calm mood: all the better to start up the year energetically!

Vanhimpien oppilaiden teemana oli "Fyysinen minä", ja vuosi aloitettiin kehonosilla sekä aisteilla.

"Physical me" was the theme for the oldest students, and the year began with the parts of the body and senses.

Aistejä sekä niiden puuttumista päästiin kokeilemaan konkreettisesti mm. rakentamalla yhdessä rakennus silmät kiinni. Pystyimme viestimään vain tunnon ja puheen kautta.

Senses and the lack thereof was soon tested concretely by constructing a building with eyes closed, among other things. Only verbal communication and touch could be used.

Taidetunnilla lapset saivat mielenkiintoisen tehtävän: piirtää ensin omat kasvot, ja sitten... mitäköhän varten nuo pikkulappuset ovat tuossa pöydällä?

In arts, children received an interesting task: first to draw their faces on paper, and then... wonder what those little pieces of paper are for?

Siinä ovat kasvot...

There's the face...

Ahaa!

Nähdään taas seuraavalla Suomi-koulukerralla!

See you on the next Finnish School day!

P.S. Dear parents and visitors at the school: as you have noticed, us teachers do not always have the time during a school day to take pictures of the activities of all of the groups. If you happen to carry a camera at school and you take pictures, you can send copies of them during Spring quarter to Jenni (contact information available in the Student handbook). I will gladly post them here in the blog to add to the variety! Please take our wish into account that people would not be recognizable in the pictures.
